Come Join Us for the Official Groundbreaking

February 22nd, 2007

The date (March 8th) has been set for the official groundbreaking for the student union. We are feverishly working on the last minute details to get ready…tent, lights, food! The Governor has been invited but since he is having hip surgery this week, we are unsure that he will be in attendance. (we certainly hope that he can join us). I hope that everyone on campus will stop by and help celebrate our official “beginning” of the construction project. The ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8th. You may enter the site through the north doors. There will be a short reception following the event. So…grab a shovel and hardhat (just kinding….we will provide them) and join in on the fun on the 8th. See you there!

The Den is gone!

February 9th, 2007

Over the break, the bowling alleys and other equipment from the Den were removed. The actual lanes were donated to a high school shop class to make tables for us to use in the facility when it is complete. A special thanks to Cole Marshall ( Stephanie Sirovatka’s husband) for helping us with this project. Some of the equipment was moved to Wyllie Market area to help create the Den 2 ( which is still developing as a concept). Now that we have finished “our” work, the construction crew has begun the demolition of the area. It will be a little while before you start to see the work of the construction crew. They are working on a lot of behind the scenes stuff right now.

They certainly move fast!

February 2nd, 2007

As many of you have probably noticed, the construction crew has begun to work on preparing the site for the substantial work to be done during this project. When the project is complete the building will twice its original size and will expand in all directions. This unfortunately means that the landscape around the building will change. As a result, we hope that the area between the union and residence halls will become a space that is easier for students to use for recreational activities and for just plain hanging out in good weather. It will look a little barren for awhile but the end result will be great!
