Working on the heat!

October 17th, 2007

Martin Peterson is working hard to get heat back up in the building by November 5, 2007, so we stay nice and warm in the dining room this winter. We are also working to get the new construction weather tight by early december so that we can concentrate on inside work this winter. We should start seeing steel going up on the southside of the building in the next few days, the roof is going on over the ballroom, and the new kitchen/dining room area are moving right along. Keep your finger crossed that the weather keeps cooperating so that construction stays on schedule!!

30% Complete!!

October 2nd, 2007

October 2, 2007

Things are moving right along and the construction crews are working hard to get the building closed in for the winter.  At this point we are approximately 30% complete with the overall project.  In the next few weeks we should see bricking on the outside of the building, more roofing going on, and more structural steel.  Inside the building all efforts are going towards getting the new heating units up and working before it gets too cold.  Keep your fingers crossed that we do not have a major cold snap before the heat is ready.

Check Out The Progress

September 5th, 2007

As you can see through the Dining Room windows and the outside of the building JP Cullen, Lee Plumbing, Magaw Electric, Martin Peterson Company, and United States Fire Protection made alot of progress over the summer under the watchful eye of our State of Wisconsin construction project manager Heather Bielke. If you have questions regarding the project as it is moving along feel free to email me at steven.wallner@uwp.edu. Be sure to check out the picture gallery for the latest photos.

Recycling & Learning

September 5th, 2007

Students the Tremper High School Shop classes have a new project for the 2007-2008 school year.  They will be taking the old bowling lanes from the UW Parkside Den and making them into table tops for the new recreation space.  A win win situation.  Reduce, Reuse Recycle.  Hands on experience!  What more could we ask for??  The Tremper students have the chance to work with a customer to make a product that will be used for many years to come.  UW Parkside cuts down on the amount of waste that goes into a landfill and gets a product that is part of UW Parkside history.  The new recreation area will be completed the summer of 2008 and be fully operational for the Fall 2008 semester.

Wow - It has really been a couple of busy weeks on the constrcution site. People, people everywhere…Steel is going up, brick is going on the outside of the building, the southside and eastside foundations are going in, mechanicals are going in on the L2, L1, and Cinema areas. Temporary walls are being moved and you can see right through the building! This place is really going to look different when students get back to campus for the Fall semester!

The steel infrastructure has been going up on the northside of the building and you can really start to see the overall shape of the building. We are starting on the foundation for the south side of the building next followed by the bookstore addition. Stay tuned and keep an eye on the picture log as we are updating it almost weekly.

More Demo, Demo Everywhere

June 27th, 2007

L2, and everything behind the construction wall on L1 are almost demoed. There is new plumbing, heating/cooling, and electrical going in on D2 and D1. The first load of steel support stucture has arrived, the first loads of new concrete forming the ramp and stairs on the D2 level have arrived and you can see the new stair towers rising out of the ground. On the D2 and D1 level you can begin to see how the area will work. The next couple months Inner Loop Road will be a two way from the flag pool running past the Sports and Activities Center, Communication Arts, to the back of Greenquist and Molinaro as we need to close the road along the whole south side of the Union for new sewer and drainage. Check out the picture gallery there are some really neat pictures of the construction!! Keep you posted!
